I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting over the Christmas period about how lucky I am to have a career I love.
Graphic Design wasn’t a natural pathway for me. I was always the kid who preferred to be entertaining and connecting with people, playing board games or solving jigsaw puzzles rather than sitting quietly in a corner drawing. So, it was a surprise to everyone, especially my parents who had paid for all the music and acting lessons, when I decided to study graphic design; a career most often associated with people who are good at drawing and painting!
But graphic design (and especially visual communication) isn’t actually about creating art. It’s fundamentally about problem solving, communicating and connecting; all things I’ve realised I've been doing naturally since childhood.
As a visual communicator, I get to help my clients have a greater impact in their world. Whether it’s simplifying a complex idea using infographics so that the target market can better understand a product or service, or creating an emotional connection using colour and imagery that inspires a reader to take action, visual communication techniques can significantly increase the effectiveness of the product or service you deliver to your clients
I’ve listed some of the benefits of effective visual communication below. I’m planning to cover each one in more detail over the coming weeks and months, so follow me on LinkedIn or join my email list to learn how you can apply these techniques to increase the effectiveness of your work.
